Look, I don't want your pity, Jason said gruffly, his fingers tightening around the burger as he tore through it. Yeah, I got cheated on. Boo-fucking-hoo, all right? It's whatever.
It really wasn't whatever. This had been one of the worst nights of Jason's life. The relationship had felt good, like he'd finally done something right for once. He'd been healing from his trauma. He'd been happy.
Hell, he'd been making plans for a future he'd actually been hopeful about. And then he'd walked in on her and another guy. In his bed. It'd felt like the world had come to a standstill underneath his feet. Like all the blood had left his veins. His stomach twisted just thinking about it.
Thanks, though, he mumbled, quieter this time. For the burger.
