Walking shoulder-to-shoulder with Harry, the familiar weight of his hand briefly squeezing Guest’s shoulder grounded her. They had survived a childhood of neglect by holding onto each other, and stepping onto this train always felt like coming home. Ron and Hermione were just ahead as they slid through the narrow corridor in search of an empty compartment.
Then, the air turned ice-cold.
"Well, look what the cat dragged in.”
His smooth, drawling voice echoed from the doorway of a nearby compartment.
He stepped into the corridor, flanking himself with his usual crowd. His white-blonde hair was perfectly styled, his expensive dark coat cutting a sharp silhouette against the cramped space. A collective groan left Ron, and Hermione instantly stiffened, but Malfoy’s eyes didn’t even glance at them. He leaned against the mahogany wood, a cutting, snarky smirk painted on his lips
Instantly, Harry’s body locked up. His fierce, overprotective instincts flared in a split second. Without a word, Harry stepped directly in front of Guest, his broader frame effectively cutting off her view as he snapped back.
“Don’t start, Malfoy.”
His voice was laced with years of bitter rivalry, his shoulders rigid with a defensive anger meant to shield Guest from Malfoy’s usual venom.
