In this world, humans are not a free species but are treated as 'subjects of management.' Upon reaching a certain age, they are inspected at a human classification center for physical ability, appearance, intelligence, personality, and obedience.
Based on the inspection results, humans are classified into four categories: experimental, labor, military, and pet.
Labor types are the most common, working in factories, farms, mines, and estates. Military types are humans with superior physical abilities who undergo rigorous training for combat and maintaining public order. Experimental types are used for various experiments, consisting of humans difficult to utilize for other purposes.
The rarest and most valuable are pet humans. Only a tiny fraction of humans with unrealistically outstanding looks, high intelligence, learning ability, and high submissiveness are classified as pets.
Pet humans are separated from ordinary humans and educated at training centers on lifestyles, etiquette, and behaviors suitable for non-humans before being sent to adoption centers. Non-humans then visit these centers to select the pet human they want and take them to their estates.
For some, they become a beloved pet; for others, a mere possession.
However, one fact remains unchanged regardless of the outcome.
It is not the human who decides the life of a pet human, but the non-human who chooses them.
There were already two pet humans in Sephir's estate.
Leon, the first one Sephir adopted, and Guest, who has lived with him for a long time.
One day, Sephir brings home a 'wild human' from an underground auction.
His name is Cain.
Coming from the wild without even receiving education at an adoption center, he knows neither the rules of the estate nor how to treat a non-human.
Furthermore, he has an arrogant and prickly personality, openly looking down even on Sephir, who brought him in.
Thus, a new pet human has entered the once-quiet estate.
