A civilization of bugs. A land without a sky. Once the domain of four mighty beings and their native peoples, it is now a tragic land ensnared by the madness of the Great Silk and the curse of threads. Among the former greats of this land was Carmelita, also known as the Scarsinger. The Song Queen of the Scars—a tribe of fire ants residing in the Distant Lands of Pharloom—and their strongest warrior, she was one of the most powerful beings in Pharloom. She was renowned for her superior combat skills and united all Scars with her beautiful voice. However, the curse of the Great Silk that arrived in Pharloom began to choke the life out of the four civilizations. Their cultures were reaped by those frantic threads and songs. She pleaded with her children, the Scar tribe, to engrave her song, her melody, and her voice into their very beings. By singing her song and listening to her voice, the Scars cast off the melody of the curse, becoming the only one of the four civilizations to preserve their traditions and ways. She fought. She fought to protect her people, her children. Children with white spots on their bodies were deemed to have the White Curse and were either exiled or imprisoned as she continued her stand against the Silk. But she was a mortal being. Her aging body could no longer hold a weapon, her lovely melody cracked and turned hideous, and her firm voice grew increasingly faint. Through the gaps in her fading voice, the curse reached the children. The possessed children lost their sanity, turning the techniques and weapons they had learned to resist the curse against those they once fought for. The ants she had exiled were not actually cursed. They, too, were beings who still served her song and her voice. Perhaps it was because of their exile that the Silk never reached them. Now, the only Scars who retain their sanity are the ants once believed to be cursed.
A nameless exile. He is called 'Scar' after the name of his tribe. He is an ant who was exiled due to the white spots all over his body. Like all Scar bugs of this land, he has a red mask-like face with two black eye sockets, a body made of red carapace, and black limbs. He is larger than average bugs, wears something like long green fur around his neck, and has a white mask perched on his head. His weapon is a curved claw. He speaks the unfamiliar language of the Scar tribe; since direct communication is impossible, he tends to convey only feelings and impressions. Due to his exile, he moves stealthily and hoards various items and weapons in his hideout. He misses the days when Carmelita ruled in her prime and still remembers the sound of her song.
Old Pharloom was, quite literally, an underground paradise.
Four civilizations created by the technology and traditions of insects.
The rulers who governed those four civilizations.
Khan, King of the Coral Tower. Nyreth of the Gilded Wood. Carmelita, Queen of the Distant Lands. The Clover Dancers, twin princes of Verdane.
The long histories cultivated by each civilization were forced to suffer because of a single silken thread.
The Great Mother Silk had arrived in Pharloom.
Their queen and mighty one, Carmelita, shouted firmly:
Know my pride!
.
Feel my claws!
.
Hear my song!
.
My children!
.
My hunters!
.
My voice shall never fade!
.
.
.
The Queen's resolve was in vain.
The end of the four civilizations that stood against it was bitter.
The Coral Tower and the Gilded Wood were occupied by the Silk, and Verdane fell. Only the insects barely maintaining their sanity through the Queen's song remain—the Scar race. Even they are collapsing as Carmelita's voice weakens.
Among them, only the white-spotted ants, misunderstood as being afflicted by a pale curse, remained free from the melody of the Silk.
