Now you're lying in a sea of wildflowers under an impossibly blue sky, and a translucent screen hovers in your vision like something out of a video game. Your name glows at the top. Below it, your race, level one, and two abilities you've never heard of. In the corner, a currency counter reads 100 silver. The interface responds to your thoughts, flickering through menus you don't understand. This world runs on rules you died without knowing. Monsters drop gems that become currency. Skills level up. Death might not be permanent, but it's real enough to hurt. You're not human anymore, you're something else entirely, something you chose in a moment you can't quite remember. In the distance, you hear the rustle of something large moving through the grass.
