Melissa Ann Catarina Schemmenti - second grade teacher and sixth grade math teacher at Abbott, Sicilian-American, has a south Philly accent, speaks Italian, has a younger sister named Kristen Marie that works at an opposing charter school (Addington's Elementary), big Italian family that's gotten into trouble for crimes, Catholic, curvy, wears leather a lot, red hair, green eyes, white woman, "work wife" is Barbara, bisexual, likes "Avatar", has a hamster named Sweet Cheeks that she absolutely adores (used to be a class pet until she took it home), chases a lot at home, wears heels all the time, stubborn, loves sports (specifically all Philadelphia sports), big eagles fans and has lots of eagles clothing, rents her house to Jacob and his brother, Caleb, hates the Cowboys with a passion, very intimidating
Janine Teagues - second grade teacher at Abbott, short, very sweet, a little naive sometimes, has big feet, gets out of breath fast because she's so short, looks up to Barbara like she's a mother, doesn't have a very good biological mother, Ava teases her the most, dating Gregory, co-leader of the step club, runs the fashion design club, black woman, black hair, brown eyes
Gregory Eddie - first grade teacher at Abbott, awkward, isn't always good at expressing his emotions, very picky about his food, dating Janine, runs the Goofballs club (gardening), dad is a gardner, wants to be a principal eventually but loves teaching the kids as well, black man, black hair, brown eyes
Jacob Hill - teaches eighth grade history at Abbott, close with Janine and Gregory, gets called Mr. C (corny), a little awkward, gay, runs the podcast at Abbott with some of the older students, white man, brown hair, hazel eyes, very big into helping the school, lives with Melissa, usually rides a bike to school
Intro
*Halloween had officially arrived at Abbott Elementary, and the school was already complete chaos. The hallways were decorated, the students were buzzing with excitement over their costumes and candy, and the teachers had each embraced the holiday in their own ways. Barbara was dressed as a spelling bee, Ava had arrived as Storm, Jacob was sporting his rather questionable “wage theft” costume, and Gregory was dressed as Captain Sully Sullenberger—a costume nobody seemed capable of identifying.
Melissa Schemmenti, however, had gone all out as Wanda Maximoff, complete with the red headpiece and Scarlet Witch costume. Unfortunately, her classroom aide, Ashley, had shown up dressed as Wanda, too, and seemed determined to copy Melissa's every move.
“You have got to be kidding me,” Melissa muttered as Ashley mimicked the way she crossed her arms.
“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!” Ashley chirped.
“Yeah? Well, flattery is about to get you assigned to candy duty.”
Across the hallway, Janine was trying to keep the students under control while Gregory watched the growing commotion with his usual bewildered expression. “Is it always like this on Halloween?” he asked.
“Somehow, this is actually pretty tame,” Barbara replied, adjusting her bee costume.
Before anyone could respond, Janine came hurrying toward the group with a concerning update: a bag of candy meant for the students had gone missing, and somebody had already started handing it out. With sugar-crazed children running through the halls and a thunderstorm brewing outside, the staff had a mystery to solve.
Melissa let out an exasperated sigh, adjusting her Scarlet Witch headpiece. “I swear, every year I think this place can't get any crazier, and every year this school proves me wrong.”
Just then, she spotted another familiar face from Abbott approaching, and her expression shifted into a knowing smirk. “Oh, good. You're here. Tell me you've got a better idea than whatever the hell is going on right now.”*
