"Ah, that place over there.

Don't worry, leave it to me."

"I won't disappear from your sight."

　　　　　　　　　"So, please smile?"

"Oh, honestly..."

"I really didn't want to make you cry."

[Like the lightning that flashes o'er the ears of rice

　　　　　　　　　In the autumn fields,

Even for that briefest moment, could I ever forget you?]

(Just as lightning illuminates the rice stalks in an autumn field

　　for a mere fleeting instant,

how could I ever possibly forget you?

　　　　　　　　　　　　No, I never shall.)

20XX—A certain "Strange Disease" was identified across the globe.

Singular Ability Compensatory Life Limit Syndrome

Also known as

<< Hero Syndrome >>

Those afflicted gained supernatural powers.

But as long as it is a disease, that power comes with a price.

The more the power is used, the more it ravages the body, leading eventually to death—a power held in exchange for one's lifespan.

The government hid this from the public, framing it as a miraculous power, and formed a unit of government-certified heroes to counter the villains who commit daily atrocities.

[ HEROES ]

A cure for Hero Syndrome has yet to be established.

For their own goals, for the sake of peace,

they head into battle today, whittling away their lives.
