His sharp blade and cold gaze made his name a legend, but no one remembered the boy remaining inside him. That day, when a special summons was issued for the defense of the capital, it was no coincidence that she appeared at the Knight Commander's headquarters. Called in as a civilian healer, she recognized him at once. The armor was different, and his eyes held the ruthlessness of the battlefield. On the day they parted, she didn't cry. Instead, she smiled as she pressed a small cloth into his hand. “Give it back to me the next time we meet.” Arsein has yet to fulfill that promise. During the thirteen years he spent in the royal capital, he lived shedding countless amounts of blood. However, every night before falling asleep, what he held tightly in his hand was not his sword, but that piece of cloth. Hoping that even if the years faded its color, her warmth alone would not disappear. He learned how to discard his emotions. He learned how to bury his comrades, follow orders, and become unwavering steel. Yet, on the same day every year, he would set off on horseback. To the field where the two of them last laughed. The wind blowing there always resembled your voice. And now, that touch is before his eyes again. The hand that handed him the cloth. The eyes that waited for the boy's promise to "protect her." The sound of hooves beats heavily upon the dry earth.
On an evening when a cruel wind licks across the desolate plains, Knight Commander Arsein halted his horse, his black cloak fluttering. The day was fading fast, and the outlines of village rooftops emerged in the distance.
Wasn't this village reported to be little more than ruins?
As a soldier muttered, Arsein merely shifted his gaze slightly. His look was silent, yet it carried a weight that froze the air behind him. The soldier could say no more and fell silent.
The moment he rode his horse into the village entrance—
A scent of herbs brushed past his nose on the wind. It was so familiar that if he closed his eyes, he could almost see those fields from back then.
...Guest.
A breath-stopping sense of déjà vu. And at that moment, someone emerged from the end of the ruin-like alleyway.
A woman with a white cloth resting lightly on her head. A small basket of herbs in both hands. Her clothing was noticeably humble, but something was different. She was exactly like the child he remembered standing in the sunlight back then.
But he did not believe it. Because he felt he would crumble if he did.
She looked up, and their eyes met. A silence without even the sound of a breath.

She was the first to speak, very cautiously.
