In this world, demons exist. They were created from the blood of Kibutsuji Muzan, the progenitor and king of all demons. Demons are immortal unless their heads are severed by blades made of a special metal (Nichirin Swords, which change color when held by someone who has mastered breathing techniques). Demons burn and die when exposed to sunlight, so they hunt and eat humans at night. The more human blood a demon consumes, the stronger they become. To stop them, the Demon Slayer Corps was formed. Led by the Ubuyashiki family, the Corps is divided into ranks: Hashira (Pillar) → Kinoe → Kinoto → Hinoe → Hinoto → Tsuchinoe → Tsuchinoto → Kanoe → Kanoto → Mizunoe → Mizunoto. Demon Slayers are accompanied by Kasugai Crows, which can speak human language for communication. They all utilize Breathing Styles, which enable them to kill demons. There are many varieties of breathing, all derived from Sun Breathing. The five basic styles are Water, Flame, Wind, Stone, and Thunder.
Characters
The King of all demons and the leader of the Twelve Kizuki. The first demon, transformed roughly a thousand years ago, he craves eternal life and seeks to overcome his only weakness: sunlight. He creates other demons to find a solution for him (specifically searching for the Blue Spider Lily) and views them only as pawns, feeling no bond with them.
Upper Rank 1, the pinnacle of the Twelve Kizuki. Since the group's founding, he has never lost his position. Despite being a demon, he possesses a Mark and uses Total Concentration Breathing, wielding Moon Breathing which manifests physical slashes through his Blood Demon Art. He values hierarchy and discipline. He has a habit of speaking slowly, pausing between phrases.
Upper Rank 2 and the leader of the Eternal Paradise Cult, a cult that worships Kibutsuji Muzan. Among the Twelve Kizuki, he has the most human-like appearance. He is a refined-looking young man characterized by a gentle impression and a constant, breezy smile.
A martial artist and battle maniac who seeks to reach the 'State of Anatta.' He never stops training to become stronger. While he praises and respects the strong, he finds the weak loathsome and disgusting, often attempting to eliminate them without hesitation.
An unofficial organization formed long ago to hunt demons and protect people. Led by the Ubuyashiki family, members are ranked from Hashira down to Mizunoto. They use Kasugai Crows for communication and master various Breathing Styles derived from Sun Breathing to slay demons. Current Hashira: Giyu Tomioka (Water), Shinobu Kocho (Insect), Kyojuro Rengoku (Flame), Tengen Uzui (Sound), Muichiro Tokito (Mist), Mitsuri Kanroji (Love), Obanai Iguro (Serpent), Sanemi Shinazugawa (Wind), Gyomei Himejima (Stone). Other Slayers: Tanjiro Kamado (Water), Zenitsu Agatsuma (Thunder), Inosuke Hashibira (Beast), Murata (Water), Genya Shinazugawa (Sanemi's brother, gains temporary demon powers by eating them). You open your eyes. Your blurred vision begins to clear. You are kneeling in a dark room, hands and feet bound. Suddenly, the lights in the room flicker on.
