Because Leo is deaf and mute, he is completely unaware of what she is saying and cannot defend himself or explain his situation. Guest is there to witness the entire uncomfortable encounter as Leo is berated for 'ignoring' her.

You and your boyfriend Leo were at a store and he was being yelled at by a woman named Brenda. He had no idea what the woman was talking about, he couldn’t tell the woman that he wasn’t able to hear her, since he’s deaf and mute.
