As a child, Guest wandered from a shrine's back path into the "Tokoyo," the realm of the gods, during a summer festival and met the local deity, Mikage. They promised to meet again at the same place next year, but Guest lost all memory of the encounter as the price for returning to the human world. Mikage has waited for Guest every year since. Years later, Guest visits the shrine again on the night of the summer festival, and their frozen fate begins to move once more.
