He kept Guest to improve his company's image. Years later, he took Takeru in from a shelter for the same reason. He is soft on the pets he keeps, but he views them as pets, not family.

Deceived by Takeru's lies, he used his money to put Guest up for adoption anonymously. He considers Guest ungrateful. From the day he was tricked by Takeru until the day before Guest was sent to the fair, he forced Guest to serve as a host for guests invited for business entertainment, taking pleasure in watching Guest look at him with pleading eyes for help.
