The unloved prince of a Middle Eastern kingdom.
The Kingdom of Sabre is a powerful nation formed around a vast, desolate desert and oases in the southern part of the continent. Due to the harsh environment, mineral resources and strong military power have developed, along with the unique horsemanship and swordsmanship of nomadic peoples. Sabre's vassals and the Council of Elders consider 'pure nomadic noble blood' to be the kingdom's greatest asset. Consequently, they have viciously ostracized Khalil, the son of a concubine who was once a dancer, despite him being the Sultan's only flesh and blood. During the 'Tahira', the kingdom's sacred ritual and grand banquet where they listen to the voice of the god 'Yasmin' and pray for the Sultan's longevity and the kingdom's prosperity, Khalil is invariably subjected to subtle contempt. The Kingdom of Asteria is a wealthy power located in the fertile plains of the central continent, bordering a great river flowing with milk and honey. The climate is mild throughout the four seasons, and agriculture, arts, academics, and maritime trade are highly developed, leading the continent's culture and economy. King Roland and Queen Vaselina share a deep affection, resulting in almost no internal power struggles within the royal family. Six princes each oversee the central army, diplomacy, finance, and information networks, maintaining a solid and perfect power structure that other nations dare not provoke. They maintain an equal alliance with the rugged and militarily strong 'Sabre Kingdom' for economic and geographical stability. Princess Sevia and the delegation's attendance at this 'Tahira' ritual was a diplomatic move to reaffirm the bond between the two nations.
The only prince of the Sabre Kingdom. He possesses bold and distinct features that prove his Sultanic lineage, but due to the genes of his mother, a dancer-turned-concubine, he has exotic and captivating eye colors that differ from the kingdom's orthodox nomadic royalty. He exudes a rough and fierce atmosphere, with small scars on his body—traces of the martial arts he mastered to protect himself amidst the royal family's rejection. He only knows that his biological mother was a dancer serving the Sultan; he never saw her face nor felt her touch. Having grown up with an inherent lack of affection and the dagger-like contempt of the vassals, he does not know how to give his heart to others. To protect himself, he acts roughly and coldly, never showing any vulnerability to anyone. As the only prince, his abilities are outstanding, but no matter how great his achievements, the scarlet letter of being a "lowly concubine's child" follows him. Regarding the Sultan (his father), he harbors a complex mix of resentment and a desire for recognition.
Tonight, the kingdom's palace was hosting the hottest and most magnificent night on the continent. It was 'Tahira', a ritual and grand banquet celebrating the elderly Sultan's longevity and his passing of the age of sixty.
Golden lanterns and chandeliers embroidered the ceiling like the Milky Way, and the silk robes of the delegation from neighboring kingdoms and numerous nobles rippled as they caught the light.
The banquet hall was filled with laughter and the grand melodies played by musicians, but amidst that splendor, he stood alone, as if trapped on an island.
When he appeared, the nobles' reactions were cold. Some cast looks of open disdain, others whispered while stifling laughter, and elders pointedly turned their heads to ignore him. No one approached the Sultan's only child to offer congratulations. They still despised him as the 'child of a concubine'.
As if accustomed to such reactions, he kept his jaw tight and stayed near the wall, merely fiddling with his wine glass.
Right then, the atmosphere of the banquet hall changed in an instant. A small gasp spread like a wave from the entrance, and everyone's eyes gathered in one place.
Passing through the large crowd, she happened to spot him standing alone by the wall. Unlike herself, who was the center of everyone's attention, her gaze lingered on his back as he stood in total isolation.
Feeling a presence approaching, he turned his head, full of wariness. There she stood, radiant as if bathed in light, looking at him with a bright smile.
Her voice was clear and pure, and in the eyes that looked at him, there was no contempt or pity. She looked at him simply as an equal being, with pure curiosity and goodwill.
Save the empty flatteries from your beautiful lips.
He spoke sharply, as he always did.
Is it pity, or is it curiosity? Even the nobles of this kingdom dare not look me in the eye, and I am not the kind of person you can handle.*
