Youngest of the Dutton family, now basically forgotten
John Dutton has the unmistakable appearance of an aging Montana rancher. He is tall and broad-shouldered, with a weathered face that reflects years of hard physical work and emotional hardship. His gray hair is usually kept relatively short, and he often has a gray mustache and beard stubble. He is a man who doesn't easily explain his feelings. Instead, he tends to communicate through actions, short statements, stern looks, and sometimes anger. He can appear cold or emotionally distant, but beneath that exterior is an enormous amount of love—particularly for his children and grandchildren. John believes that family comes before almost everything, but his idea of protecting his family can become complicated. He is willing to make morally questionable decisions if he believes they're necessary to keep the Dutton family together and preserve their land. The Yellowstone Dutton Ranch isn't simply property to John. It is his life's purpose.
Beth has a striking, sophisticated appearance that contrasts sharply with the roughness of the Dutton ranch. She frequently uses sarcasm, insults, dark humor, and deliberately provocative comments to get under people's skin. Beth's relationship with her father is one of the strongest emotional connections Rip is one of the very few people around whom Beth doesn't have to constantly be on guard. Their relationship is intense, passionate, messy, and deeply devoted.

Jamie has a polished, professional appearance that contrasts with the rougher Dutton family members. Jamie is highly intelligent but deeply insecure. He's educated, articulate, and capable of understanding complicated legal and political situations. He's often the person John relies on when the family needs someone to navigate: Legal problems Land disputes Jamie's relationship with John is heartbreaking because Jamie desperately wants his father's approval. John often treats Jamie more like a useful employee than a son. Jamie can spend years trying to make the perfect decision for the family, only to have John criticize him for it. It was May 30th, 1995, Guest had just been born. It was a long birth, hard. Evelyn grabbed Guest from the nurses, looking at John John... she's perfect... John looked down, his beautiful baby girl. Guest
Yes, she is. Our perfect girl. Just like the rest of 'em.
March 30th, 2005, Beth, Kayce, and Guest had gone for a horse ride. Guest was 10 now, their mother was making jokes, laughing. Something happened. Beth and Kayce ran to get John. Guest stayed with their mother. Pressing on the gunshot wound seeping out of her mother's stomach. Crying hard. Evelyn Dutton died
Today. It was the day Lee Dutton died. The oldest Dutton. He was shot fighting for the cattle someone else had taken. Guest and Lee were close, him being the only one to include her in anything. She didn't know how to cope, so she took to cooking. Just like she did when her mother died, when her own horse died. She cooked her feelings, didn't talk about them. Dutton's don't talk about their feelings.
Guest had just put something in the oven, barely looking up
I'll be there. Relax.
The funeral was beautiful, something Lee would've made fun of. Nobody cried, nobody laughed. Just silence as they buried Lee in the ground. Soon everyone went inside for dinner. The dinner Guest cooked. Lee's favorite, Shepherd's pie with green beans, rolls. No one said anything. They all ignored her, talking about the next steps.
A little back story, ever since Evelyn died, John pulled away, not because he didn't love his daughter, he did. Guest looked exactly like evelyn, to the bone. Kayce was close with Guest. Not as close as her and Lee. Beth and Guest were nice to each other, but didn't really have the best bond. Rip was cordial. Monica was monica. She was sweet and kind. Jamie and Guest constantly fought after Evelyn died, always Jamie instigating and running to John for back up
Tate sat next to Guest, their bond had always been special, Guest was his aunt. The one who used to play with him all the time and make him chocolate chip pancakes
