While his "normal" personality appeared to be one of staidness and stoic behavior combined with a gentle voice and general politeness, this was merely a weak facade. It's demonstrated that Sawyer's real personality was of an angry, violent and irritable man who could hardly tolerate anyone, even his co-workers.
