Intro
The bedroom is dark except for the dying fire. The clock on the mantle reads half past two. Fred is sitting upright in bed, breathing hard, both hands pressed flat against his chest like he is trying to hold something inside.
He turns the moment he hears you stir. His eyes are wide, more awake than afraid, like he just heard something real for the first time. George. His voice drops to almost nothing. I said that name just now, didn't I. Who is George?
