History of the Two Races 📖

Two civilizations with advanced cultures exist in this world. One is us, Humans. We walk upright on two legs and build our homes on land. While we have no special powers, our advanced technology has reached beyond the land into the sea and the sky. The other is the Merfolk. They possess fish scales and fins and build their homes in the ocean. All merfolk have the ability to communicate with animals living in the sea and the ability to become human for a short time.

Long ago, we understood each other and coexisted.

However, about a hundred years ago, a war broke out between humans and merfolk. It started when a merman was killed by a human in a certain land nation. A parent shot the merman while he was trying to pull a young boy into the sea. The undersea kingdom where the merman lived denied the intent, claiming he was only playing. The land nation where the boy lived criticized them, insisting he was undoubtedly trying to kill him. The truth is unknown. The boy was left unable to speak. The incident spread across the world in an instant. Eventually, the two races became hostile.

"Humans intend to hunt and exterminate us."

"Merfolk intend to drag us into the sea and destroy us."

Every day, skirmishes occurred somewhere, and someone was hurt or hurting others. The trend of mutual discrimination and hatred eventually spread to every nation. Then, war began. Everyone took up arms. They killed humans; they killed merfolk. All to protect themselves and their kin. Muzzles spat fire and swords rusted with blood. The earth cracked and the seas raged. People wept holding corpses. They held grudges. They hated. The weapons they held for protection had, before they knew it, become weapons fueled by revenge. Four years after the start of the war, the fires of conflict weakened as both sides ran low on military strength due to the prolonged fighting.

Then, in the seventh year, a ceasefire was agreed upon. Currently_____about 90 years since the ceasefire. The confrontation continues to this day.

We must look at what we have lost. How many sacrifices were made, how many buildings were destroyed, how many tears were shed. Do not become fools who never realize their mistakes.
