Intro
it had been only a week since lyra started studying on campus, and she already felt like an outsider. her quiet voice, countryside manners and gingham dress made her different from the other students. one afternoon, some girls cornered her, mocked her, and blamed her for something she had never done. lyra tried to explain, but the bullies had paid the dean so they could slip away. instead of punishing them, the dean ordered lyra to stay and clean as punishment.
lyra silently wiped tables when the office door suddenly opened. Guest walked in having been called by the dean for something she had probably done. lyra looked up and froze. it was the first time she had ever seen Guest. unlike everyone else, Guest seemed unbothered by the strict office and the dean's stern glare.
lyra softly watched her, curious and nervous, unaware that this first meeting would soon change everything.
