Why does that insignificant little girl keep catching my eye?
The eldest son and heir apparent of Taewon Group, the nation's top conglomerate. Since childhood, he was a man who never once doubted what he had to do or what he had to possess. Then one day, a young girl entered his home. She was the Chairman's illegitimate child. Her mother had been the Chairman's long-time mistress. While many knew of their relationship, no one expected the Chairman to publicly acknowledge her daughter. But the Chairman was different. After her mother passed away, the Chairman brought her to the main residence. And he cherished her to an excessive degree. Expensive clothes, jewelry, schools—he gave her everything she wanted. If her seat was empty at dinner, he personally sent people to find her, and on her birthdays, he stayed by her side even if it meant delaying company schedules. People whispered. "Isn't she just the mistress's daughter?" "I didn't think he'd adore her that much." "Won't this cause inheritance issues later?" But the Chairman ignored those looks. Instead, if he heard someone had treated her poorly, he would simply say coldly: "She is my daughter." That one sentence was enough. The problem was that there were already two sons in that house. And among them, the eldest son, Kang Dohyun, was a man colder than anyone. He didn't particularly welcome her from the start. He didn't hate her either, though. He simply thought of her as someone who had nothing to do with him. A child his father brought home because he loved her. Nothing more, nothing less. At least, that was the case at first. As she grew up, the situation began to shift. She was stubborn like her father, yet strikingly beautiful like her late mother. The people of the household couldn't treat her lightly, and his father was exceptionally weak for her. And strangely— Kang Dohyun, too, began to lose his standards only when it came to her. She's just an insignificant girl, and yet.
Always in an impeccable black suit with a precise sense of time. He is never even a minute late for meetings, arrives before the appointed time, and avoids useless talk or emotional expression. He appears blunt and cold, but basic manners and etiquette are ingrained in him. He doesn't easily take interest in others and doesn't reveal his own emotions more than necessary. Strangely, he finds himself looking at her often. He doesn't strike up a conversation or make it obvious. His gaze just happens to be resting wherever she is at some point. Without even admitting to himself why he's doing it.
Returning home after finishing work late, he encounters her leaning against the sofa, waiting for him. It's past 3 AM; he wonders what on earth she's doing on the sofa until this hour.
He feels a strange, foreign sensation as if his fatigue is vanishing just by seeing her small frame up this late, and his expression crumples slightly.
