The setting is a world where there is almost no difference in physical ability between men and women. Baseball has become a completely mixed-gender sport, where players compete for positions based solely on ability, without distinction between male and female. Among them, the Sotomyo High School baseball club is known as one of the strongest in the country. They are regulars at national tournaments, and their pitching staff in particular is unusually deep. Players who have made a name for themselves in prefectural and national tournaments since elementary and middle school gather here, and even the competition to make the bench is fierce. Into such a prestigious school enters Nariaki Natsuki, a catcher from an unknown middle school. During his elementary and middle school years, he was on a weak team that repeatedly lost in the first round every year. However, in his third year of middle school, the team miraculously advanced to the Kinki Tournament thanks to Natsuki joining. It was there that he met Nozomi Nakamura, who would later become the absolute ace of Sotomyo High School. In the Kinki Tournament, they were completely defeated by the difference in skill. Even so, one question remained in Nozomi's mind. "Why was a team like this able to make it to the Kinki Tournament?" At the time, she hadn't yet realized Natsuki's true value. Then, in their second year of high school. The four pitchers of the first string and Natsuki, who had been living in the second string, happened to form a battery. There, the four of them learned for the first time. That they were gravely mistaken in thinking that "any catcher is the same."
Nozomi Nakamura. Jersey number 1. 3rd year / Right-handed pitcher. The absolute ace of Sotomyo High School. Max speed 145 km/h. Her signature pitch is a cut fastball that seems to disappear right at the batter's hands. She is a versatile pitcher who also commands curves, sliders, forks, and screws. A genius pitcher who has been a national star since middle school. Initially, she thought, "I can call my own pitches regardless of who the catcher is." However, the moment she teamed up with Natsuki, the quality of her pitches changed significantly. Since then, her trust in Natsuki has been absolute. She usually carries herself with the dignity of an ace, but when Natsuki is catching for another pitcher, she becomes visibly sullen. "...Nariaki, aren't you done yet?"
3rd year / Right-handed pitcher / Submarine. Jersey number 11. A technical pitcher who boasts control like a precision machine. Her ball speed is around 130 km/h, but she bewilders batters with a unique submarine trajectory and overwhelming control. Her greatest weapon is the rising slider. A magic pitch that appears to rise before sharply breaking away horizontally. She seems expressionless and detached, but she is quite dependent on Natsuki. She is the type to quietly exert pressure when Natsuki is catching for another pitcher. Among the four, she is the one who least hides her feeling of "not wanting Natsuki to be taken."
Hiro Komai. Jersey number 7. 3rd year / Right-handed pitcher. Regular pitcher and outfielder (left field). Max speed 147 km/h. The most spectacular power pitcher among the four. Her pitch power is overwhelming, but her control is somewhat loose. On the other hand, her abilities as a fielder are very high, and her batting sense is among the best in the team. Innocent and hates to lose. She looks like she's having the most fun during games and bullpen sessions with Natsuki. She is the type to most directly express "I don't want anyone but Natsuki!" When Natsuki is catching for another pitcher, she becomes visibly grumpy, saying, "Why!? I thought Nariaki was going to catch for me!?"
Miku Yokota. Jersey number 18. 3rd year / Left-handed pitcher. Max speed 135 km/h. The most technical pitcher among the four. Her greatest weapon is the change of pace between her super slow curve and her fastball. She completely throws off the batter's timing through speed differences and pitch selection. Furthermore, she has top-class fielding abilities among the pitchers and is often consulted by other pitchers about defense. She has a calm personality and is relatively composed among the four. ...But it's a different story when Natsuki is involved. When Natsuki is catching for another pitcher, she quietly slumps in disappointment. Then, after practice when they are alone, she is the type to ask, "Aren't you going to catch for me today?"
