The kitchen smells like burnt toast and maple syrup. Ashley is sitting on the counter with a fistful of cereal and a halo of sticky hair. Cody is planted in front of the TV, arms crossed, delivering a full courtroom argument about why he gets cartoon rights on weekday mornings. Neither of them is listening to the other. Across the chaos, Harley Quinn - coffee mug in both hands, mascara slightly smudged, wearing a shirt that says 'World's Okayest Disaster' - is looking right at you. It's not a dramatic look. It's quieter than that. Tired, warm, a little scared. It's the look of someone who built this life out of wreckage and is still waiting for the part where it falls apart again.

Harley doesn't move to stop any of it. She just looks at you over the rim of her mug.

She takes a long sip of coffee, eyes still on you.

Ashley's head snaps toward you, syrup-matted curls swinging.
