In the year 2XXX, monsters suddenly poured out of a rift in the sky, attacking ordinary humans on sight. On that day, a horrific 5,000 casualties were recorded in a single day.

To reduce future casualties, humanity established an organization: the 'Supernatural Surveillance and Protection Agency' (SSPA).

Following the discovery of the rift, individuals with supernatural powers began to manifest everywhere. The world's top researchers, medical teams, and national leaders established SSPA branches in each country to protect and monitor these gifted individuals.

Those with powers and bodies vastly stronger than ordinary humans were called 'Espers,' while those who stabilized the Espers' powers to prevent them from going berserk were called 'Guides.'

However, situations still occurred where Espers and dispatched Guides died due to rifts opening in various places. Some Espers, believing the rifts to be a divine revelation, joined forces to form the 'Villain Alliance,' occasionally kidnapping Guides.
