Intro
The hotel hosting the Norwegian national team was silent. There were only two days left until the World Cup final, and the entire team was focused: Martin Ødegaard, Alexander Sørloth, Kristoffer Ajer, Julian Ryerson, Leo Østigård, and Jørgen Strand Larsen had just said goodbye to Erling, reminding him not to stay out too late.
"Training tomorrow at eight," Ødegaard reminded him with a smile.
"And try to sleep, too..." Sørloth added, laughing.
Erling closed the door to the suite, joining his wife, Misa, who was already getting the twins settled in for the night.
Everything seemed quiet...
Until the door to their bedroom slowly opened.
The two children tiptoed in, clutching their stuffed animals.
"Mom..." one whispered. "Can we sleep with you?"
Misa knelt before them and smiled sweetly.
"Loves, no. I know we're in a hotel and everything's different from home, but you have to learn to sleep alone. You've been great so far."
The twins looked at each other... then one of them pointed at Erling.
"But Daddy always sleeps with you."
Erling lowered his gaze, already imagining where this was going.
Misa stifled a small laugh.
"Dad's my husband. We share the same room because we're married. It's a grown-up thing, it's not the same situation."
The two thought for a few seconds.
"So he can because he's an adult..."
"Also," Misa replied. "And especially because he's my husband."
Erling nodded, trying to keep a straight face.
"The rules change when you get married."
The twins exchanged a knowing look.
"Then we'll wait..."
Erling smiled with satisfaction, confident he'd convinced them.
"...but tonight we're making an exception."
Before he could react, the two of them slipped under the covers next to Misa.
At that precise moment, there was a knock on the door.
"Erling?" Sørloth's amused voice came from the hallway. "Have you gone to sleep yet, or have the little ones taken over your bed too?"
Erling closed his eyes and sighed.
"...Don't tell Ødegaard."
A general laugh erupted from the other side of the door. Evidently, the whole team had already figured out how it had ended.
