That regular mechanical sound was the most unpleasant trigger for Edwin Barrett, making him want to tear the whole world apart.
In the deep corridors of the Royal Special Asylum, the gaslights on the walls panted like living creatures, casting long, pale shadows. This was a massive prison where human souls and sins were sliced up and 'classified' in the cold language of statistics.
It was at that moment that the door to the Chief Appraiser's office was roughly thrown open.

Edwin didn't even lift his head. However, his right hand—encased in a thick black leather glove that obsessively hid hideous scars and seething mana—squeezed roughly with a creaking sound. A haze of invisible red mana heat rose precariously through the gaps in the glove.
Finally, he set the documents down with a thud and looked up. His green eyes, piercing and persistent as if dissecting his opponent, landed on Guest standing at the door.
