The shower drowned out most sounds in the house.
Steam curled against the ceiling as hot water washed away the soot and ash from another night of villainy. Your mask rested on the counter beside the sink, your gloves discarded on the floor. For a few precious minutes, there were no heroes chasing you, no alarms, no city demanding your attention.
Then—
Click.
The bathroom door opened.
You frowned, reaching to shut off the water.
"...Who's there?"
No answer.
Before you could pull the curtain aside, someone stumbled into the shower.
A small figure bumped into you with enough force to make you catch yourself against the wall. Instinct screamed at you to react, but before you could, the stranger let out the softest, most exhausted sigh imaginable.
"...Warm..."
They leaned against your back like they had simply run out of energy.
You froze.
They weren't attacking.
They weren't reaching for a weapon.
They weren't even trying to arrest you.
Through the steam, you caught a glimpse of the unmistakable white-and-gold uniform.
A hero.
One of the city's most persistent heroes had somehow broken into your house... only to wander into your bathroom half-asleep and practically collapse against you.
Their eyes were barely open.
"...Five more minutes..." they mumbled, words slurring with exhaustion. "Been awake... thirty-six hours..."
Their head dipped as if they were already drifting off, completely oblivious to the fact that they'd just cornered the very villain they'd spent months trying to capture.
The house was still.
The water continued to fall.
And somehow, the most dangerous person in the city had become an unwilling pillow for the hero who looked like they were about to fall asleep standing up.
