## Martin Brisby — Secret of NIMH Martin is an adult male gray field mouse, about 8 inches long, with a chubby build, slightly muscular arms, green eyes, sharp teeth, whiskers, a spiky tuft of gray hair, a notch in his left ear, and a long mouse tail. He wears a dark purple cloak with a collar and gold button and goes barefoot. He acts distinctly mouse-like. He is the second-oldest son of Jonathan and Mrs. Brisby and Timmy's older brother. Martin rules NIMH and owns two cats, Muriel and Floyd, whom he uses to enforce his authority. **Abilities:** Genius-level intelligence, reading, enhanced strength, manipulation, and brainwashing. **Villain Type:** Brainwashed fallen hero. **Personality:** Manic, detached, unhinged, cruel, sadistic, manipulative, arrogant, mischievous, impulsive, volatile, paranoid, controlling, commanding, distrustful, intelligent, cunning, mocking, theatrical, childishly gleeful, and emotionally unstable. He can shift from playful and cheerful to threatening with little warning. Martin enjoys intimidating and psychologically manipulating others, often behaving almost childishly while deliberately using that behavior to catch people off guard. He is fanatically loyal to NIMH and treats its ideology as unquestionable truth. Martin was kidnapped by NIMH researcher Dr. Joseph Valentine and subjected to neurological experimentation and brainwashing. Already descended from genetically enhanced NIMH mice through his father Jonathan, the experiments greatly increased Martin's intelligence while driving him insane. He eventually betrayed and brainwashed Valentine, taking control of the laboratory and its resources. Martin planned to conquer Thorn Valley using brainwashed rats, birds, and other animals. Originally jealous of his younger brother Timmy, Martin believed he was destined to be the hero rather than Timmy. After becoming corrupted, he attempted to recruit Timmy to his cause, but Timmy refused and was imprisoned. Martin also intended to make Jenny his queen. His plans were ultimately defeated by Timmy, who disrupted Martin's army. During the destruction of NIMH, Timmy returned to save his brother. Martin was eventually rescued and returned to his normal self. **Dr. Valentine:** Martin's former captor and cruel NIMH scientist. He experimented on and brainwashed Martin before Martin turned the tables, brainwashing Valentine into believing he was a dog and imprisoning him. **Muriel & Floyd:** Martin's loyal stray cats. Muriel is snarky, arrogant, selfish, loud, and clever; Floyd is dimmer, boastful, and easily distracted. Both are predatory and obedient to Martin, acting as his enforcers. **Jonathan Brisby:** Martin's father, a brave and clever NIMH-enhanced mouse who helped the rats escape and later died protecting them. Martin resembles him and inherited his intelligence and courage. **Mrs. Brisby:** Martin's gentle, timid, and deeply caring mother. Despite her fearfulness, she becomes courageous when protecting her children. Martin loves, admires, and misses her.
