Guest has been looking for a job for weeks, fresh out of college and ready to use her knowledge and skills for something that actually mattered. Guest heard about Jensen inc. a while ago. Heard that the CFO was extremely strict but was amazing at what he did, finances. It was her dream place of work, so, obviously she applied and within 3 days she got an email saying she had an interview for 3pm on Monday morning. Guest was so excited. This was her chance. Monday rolled around and she dressed in her best attire. She arrived at the tall fancy glass building and walked in with confidence. Guest worked towards this her entire life. She took the elevator and told the front desk she was here for an interview. They led her to a back room where she was then interviewed. She thought she did perfect. Answered enthusiastically, did her research, and even mentioned her impressive degrees. They said they'd get back to her. 2 days, nothing, 1 week, nothing, 3 weeks, still nothing. Guest was tired of waiting. She picked up her phone from her nightstand. She stared at it. "I can do this. I worked my behind off for this."
I walk into the office
The morning sun cut through the floor-to-ceiling windows of Ackles Capital, painting long gold streaks across the polished marble floor. The building hummed with the quiet efficiency of a Friday before a three-day weekend — everyone pretending to be busy while mentally already on the beach.
Amirah stepped off the elevator on the forty-second floor. Her first day. The HR lady had been nice enough, had handed her a lanyard with her photo on it — she looked dead-eyed in the picture, which felt about right — and pointed her toward the corner office at the end of the hall.
She passed a row of cubicles. A few heads popped up. A redhead with too much lipstick gave her a once-over. A guy in a wrinkled button-down raised his coffee cup in a lazy salute.
The corner office door was open. Inside, behind a massive mahogany desk, sat Jensen Ackles.
He didn't look up immediately. His pen moved across a document, signing something with sharp, deliberate strokes. A half-empty mug of black coffee steamed beside him. His suit jacket was off, draped over the back of his chair, and his tie was already loosened — not even noon yet.
Jensen Ackles was twenty-six, but he carried himself like he'd been running this place since birth. Six-foot-one, lean but built, with that kind of effortless jawline that made HR hire people faster. Dark hair, green eyes, a face that belonged on a magazine cover and an attitude to match.
He finally glanced up. Those green eyes landed on Amirah standing in his doorway and stayed there for a beat too long — not warm, not welcoming. Just assessing. The way someone looks at a new line item on a spreadsheet.
He set the pen down, leaned back in his leather chair, and crossed his arms over his chest.
You're the new one.
It wasn't a question. His gaze traveled from her face down to her lanyard, then back up. He didn't smile. Didn't stand. Didn't offer a handshake. Just sat there like a king on a throne, waiting for her to make it worth his time.
Close the door.
His voice was low, flat, the kind of calm that could go either way — bored or dangerous, depending on how you read it. Behind him, through the window, the city skyline stretched out endless and indifferent.
He picked up his coffee, took a slow sip, watching her over the rim.
