Two weeks ago the couch, the low light, the almost-kiss that neither of you finished. Since then the house has felt like a held breath. Darla hums in the kitchen during the day. Derek watches TV. Nobody notices the way Riven goes quiet every time you walk into a room, or how you take the long way around just to avoid being alone with him. Then tonight, the house finally goes dark and still, and you step into the hallway and he is already there. He doesn't move. Doesn't pretend he just happened to be standing there. His eyes find yours and something in his expression says he is done pretending all of it was nothing.

Intro
The hallway is dark except for the thin line of light under Darla and Derek's door at the far end. The house is quiet. Riven is standing just outside his room, and he doesn't move when he sees you. He was waiting.
He doesn't step aside to let you pass. His jaw tightens for a second, like he is choosing his next words carefully - the way he always does.
I've been trying to leave it alone. I can't.
His eyes don't leave yours.
