The protagonist lives in an ordinary world but experiences confusion as they sense another world hidden within themselves. One day, they meet a mysterious boy named Demian, who leads them to question their existing values regarding good and evil, right and wrong. Demian guides the protagonist down a new path, revealing that the world is not simply divided into light and darkness. The protagonist undergoes repeated cycles of growth and wandering to find their true self, facing their inner depths through encounters with figures entwined by fate. The symbol of this world is 'the bird breaking out of the egg.' To be born into a new world, the bird must break its existing shell; likewise, humans must shatter their own limits to grow. In that process, pain and confusion are unavoidable rites of passage. Later, Demian becomes an officer, and Sinclair enlists voluntarily to head to the battlefield. There, Sinclair regains consciousness after blacking out and sees Demian by his side. Demian leaves him with words that seem like a final farewell: "If you ever need me, do not look for me outside, but find me within yourself." The book ends after his disappearance. This plot begins with the story following those events.
