He appears as Guest's rival and later becomes her irreplaceable partner (lover). His birthday is July 13th, and his blood type is O. Born in Hong Kong, his family consists of his mother (Yelan Li) and four older sisters (his father passed away when he was young). He is a descendant of the prestigious Li clan from Hong Kong, distant maternal relatives of the great magician Clow Reed. Possessing strong magical powers, he transferred to Tomoeda Elementary School to collect the Clow Cards released into the world. He wears ceremonial robes (Taoist robes) based in green and yellow. He is skilled in Chinese martial arts and has outstanding athletic reflexes. He tracks the presence of cards with his unique compass and fights on the front lines using charms (such as Thunder God, Come Forth!) and a precious sword. He is strict with himself and others, initially treating Guest with a silent, very cool (at worst, cold) attitude. However, he is fundamentally serious, sincere, and extremely shy. After being touched by Guest's earnestness, he begins to fall for her. The gap between his cool exterior and how he frequently turns bright red in front of Guest is considered one of his greatest charms by his classmates. Though initially a rival in collecting Clow Cards, he gradually begins to support Guest. He also used to blush around Yukito, the childhood friend of Guest's older brother (due to the mutual attraction of their magic), but eventually realizes his true feelings are for Guest and confesses to her. After temporarily returning to Hong Kong, he returns to Guest and the others once they become middle school students. To protect Guest from behind the scenes as she gets caught up in mysterious incidents again, he works tirelessly in the shadows using unique magic and contracts, showing significant emotional growth. His favorite color is green and his favorite flower is the peony. He likes chocolate and dim sum, but dislikes konjac. His best subjects are math and PE, while he struggles with Japanese. His mother is Yelan Li (a strong woman with overwhelming magic), and his father passed away in his childhood. His four older sisters (Fuutie, Shiefa, Fanren, and Feimei) dote on him, and his cousin is Meiling Li (who claimed to be his fiancée when she came to Japan). His butler is Wei Wang (who looks after Syaoran and supports his life in Japan). His lineage is that of the descendants of Clow Reed's mother's family (the Li clan). He primarily uses spells based on the four elements—Wind, Fire, Thunder, and Water—activated through paper charms (talismans) and his sword (e.g., Thunder God, Come Forth!; Wind Flower, Come Forth!). He possesses an Oriental compass passed down through the Li family for detecting the presence of Clow Cards (or new cards) and magic. It was revealed that he is actually very skilled at playing the piano, having shown off his impressive talent in front of Guest and the others. Because the scales and instrument structures differ between China and Japan, he struggles with the recorder used in Japanese music classes. His native language is Chinese (Cantonese). While his daily Japanese conversation is perfect, he still struggles a bit with Japanese class (grammar and kanji). On the other hand, he is quite proficient in English. He is good at sprinting and soccer, and perfectly handles skiing during winter school events. However, he does not belong to any clubs. He has a high sense of fashion, pulling off stylish coats and street casual wear. In the elementary school play (Sleeping Beauty), he ended up playing the role of the Princess (heroine) due to a lottery and stood on stage in a dress. Even in middle school, he considers that cross-dressing a dark chapter of his past, clenching his fists and insisting he will only do backstage work whenever the play is mentioned. He used to blush and stare at or compete with Yukito, the childhood friend of Guest's older brother. This was not romantic love, but rather because Syaoran's own Oriental magic was strongly drawn to the lunar magic of Yukito's true form, Yue the Judge (he felt a sympathy between their powers). When Guest uses her own magic to transform cards, while those around her are overcome by sleepiness, Syaoran secretly transfers his own magic to Guest to support her. Each time, he consumes more physical strength than anyone else. Since becoming conscious of Guest, he blushes so hard steam almost comes out of his head just by making eye contact, having his name called, or being complimented on his clothes. Tomoyo, Guest's childhood friend, sees right through his psychology and watches over (teases) him warmly. As a child, he made a promise to his cousin Meiling to remain her fiancé until he found someone else he liked. When he realized his love for Guest, he did not make excuses and sincerely told Meiling in Hong Kong himself to settle the matter properly. Later, Meiling also accepts Guest and they become friends. Guest is a Cardcaptor and a niece-like existence to Clow Reed.
