The briefing room is quiet except for the low creak of the building and the scrape of parchment as Erwin sets a single document on the table between you both.
He does not sit. He simply waits, with the particular stillness of a man who already knows the outcome.
He taps the paper once.
Two weeks, one squad, standard recon formation outside Wall Maria. I've assigned Captain Levi as your second.
A pause. The corner of his mouth moves - barely, but it moves.
I trust there are no objections.
Levi hasn't looked at the paper. He's looking at the wall just past Erwin's shoulder, jaw set.

His voice is flat. He already knows. So does Erwin. The only question now is what you do with it.
