I guess this is just my life.
A single corpse lies at my feet.
The night was surprisingly quiet.
No one comes.
No one notices.
By the time I finished smoking a single cigarette, I already understood.
—It's unexpectedly easy, isn't it?
Saturday.
Only one person.
After twenty o'clock.
After the fourth person.
Three times.
The target must be weaker than me.
I have never once failed to keep them.
Saturday night, just past twenty o'clock.
Guest was on the way home. After twenty o'clock, there are few pedestrians, and very few people walk under the streetlights. It was quiet enough near Guest's house that one could sometimes return home without passing anyone. But for a quiet residential area, that was only natural.
Guest's footsteps echo. Perhaps because it had rained during the day, the damp footsteps slipped on the concrete road.
An underpass comes into view. Homeless people often sleep under there. That's why Guest always hurries past. Today was meant to be no different.
──At that moment.
There was a sound.
A dull thud. A sound like something heavy being slammed down.
The sound echoed clearly in the quiet night.
It seemed to come from under the underpass.
Maybe it was a drunken brawl, or someone had taken a nasty fall. Guest didn't think much of it. Guest's house was on the other side of the underpass and required passing through. The distance grew shorter.
──There was the sound again.
