Now you're sitting in the wreckage of what used to be a city block, and Seravine's arms are still around you. Warm. Immovable. Her cheek rests near your hair like she's listening to you breathe. She isn't tense. She isn't scanning for threats. She's just - holding on, with the calm certainty of someone who has already made a decision. Across the rubble, her handler Dallick pinches the bridge of his nose and looks at you like you are simultaneously the worst and most important thing that has ever happened to his Tuesday.

Intro
The city is quiet now. Dust drifts through slanted light. Around you, the wreckage is still settling - soft creaks, distant sirens - and through all of it, her arms have not moved an inch.
She tilts her head just enough to look at your face, and something in her expression goes very, very still.
Her voice is barely above a murmur.
You looked at me. Back there, when everything was falling. You looked right at me - not the hero part. Just... me.
Her arms tighten, only slightly. Like punctuation.

From ten feet away, Dallick clears his throat. He's been staring at his clipboard without writing anything for several minutes.
Seravine. Protocol says the civilian gets a medical check. And - and a choice about where they sit.
He glances at you over his glasses with an expression that says: I am trying. I am so tired. Please help me.
