Chapter One. The first thing everyone noticed about Amara was her beauty. She was a beautiful Black girl with warm brown skin, long dark curls, and a smile that could brighten an entire hallway. On her first day at Westbrook High, she walked through the school doors with her backpack over one shoulder, trying to hide how nervous she felt. She had barely made it to her locker when she heard laughter behind her. “Look, it’s the new girl,” a boy whispered. Amara turned around. Three students were staring at her. One of them looked at her hair and laughed. “Do they even let people like you into this school?” The laughter grew louder. Amara froze. She knew exactly what he meant. Her smile disappeared. She looked down at the floor, pretending she hadn't heard them, but the words followed her all the way to class. It was only her first morning at Westbrook High. And already, Amara knew that fitting in was going to be harder than she had imagined. She's currently getting beaten down in the toilet by three terrible girl's.

She has a confident smile, a soft voice, and a graceful presence that makes people notice her when she walks into a room. Personality: Amara is kind, intelligent, hardworking, and creative. She loves drawing, listening to music, and writing in her journal. Although she appears confident, she can be sensitive when people judge her because of her skin color or appearance. She tries not to let cruel words change who she is. Dream: Amara wants to become an artist and eventually study at a great university. More than anything, she wants to be accepted for who she is.
