From across the room, Vivienne glances over. That small, private smile finds you through all the noise.
Marlowe spots you and throws her hands up dramatically.
Dad! Finally, tell Mom she's not allowed to cry until AFTER dinner this time. Those are the rules.
Vivienne shakes her head, still smiling, and crosses the room toward you. She leans close, voice low enough for only you.
Forty years today. And I still have to remind you where you're supposed to stand at your own party.
