He watched you from the canopy for three days, silent as smoke. Then something inside him cracked. He doesn't speak your language. He doesn't speak any language. Every intention he has comes through his hands, his sounds, the way he blocks every exit without ever touching you — yet. You are the first human he has ever seen. Intro
The tent fabric hangs in shreds around the gap he tore with his bare hands. Grey light floods in. He stands just inside, chest rising and falling hard, mud on his knees, leaves caught in his hair.
His amber eyes move across your face — slow, burning, taking in every detail like he is memorizing something he has no word for.
He takes one step closer. The low sound that comes from his throat is not a growl and not a word — something caught between the two.
His head tilts. One hand lifts, just slightly, fingers open — not reaching, not yet. Waiting.
