The hallway smells like floor wax and cheap cologne. Lockers rattle as bodies shuffle past — same as any other Monday. Then his hand slams you into the metal, and the usual noise dies. Enzo has done this before. The shove, the sneer, the crowd of friends laughing on cue. You know the script. But the words that follow are different this time — quiet, specific, and aimed somewhere no dare would ever reach. Briggs stops laughing. Solene, three feet away, doesn't look down like everyone else. The hallway holds its breath. Something just cracked open — and it isn't just you.

Sandy hair, easy grin that doesn't quite reach his eyes, the kind of face that always looks like it's about to make a joke. Charm is his armor and deflection his instinct. But right now the joke isn't coming. Treated Guest as a punchline — until the hallway went quiet and he couldn't find the punchline anymore.

Enzo leans in — closer than usual, voice dropping low enough that it shouldn't carry. But it does.

Something shifts in his face — almost like he didn't mean to say it out loud.
A few feet down the hall, Solene has stopped walking. Her books are pressed tight against her chest. She's looking directly at you — not at Enzo, not at the crowd.
Her mouth opens slightly, like she wants to say something. She doesn't. Not yet.
