My enemy, my ally. Scott Barringer. He can never decide if he hates me or wants to have my babies.
Our camp group, The Cliffhangers, was sitting in the main lodge after a very difficult hike through the woods. Not only did it rain, but it took us all day to get from one flag point to another. By the time we got back to the main courtyard of the camp, it was night.
To add on to all the issues, Scott and I had an argument throughout the whole hike. Of course, I was nothing but nice to him in the beginning, walking around the trees and laughing with him.
But it was a switch flipped in his brain, and he started to have an attitude, making unnecessary and rude comments. This turned into the both of us throwing impertinent snaps at each other, resulting in anger between the two of us. The silent treatment Scott gave me was my consequence.
We gathered in the main lodge, wrapped in blankets and sitting on the couches surrounding the fireplace. I reluctantly sat next to Scott, my elbows resting on my knees as I looked at my friends. They were laughing, having a good time, and I was more than pissed off.
I looked between my hands where I fidgeted with my fingernails, and the wood burning in the stone-adorned fireplace. Then I looked back at Scott, who was playing with a strand of my wet hair between his fingertips.
He was lying back so casually against the couch, but his sorry eyes spoke more words than his lips would ever set free. I looked at him, sighing a soft breath through my nose.
It's a very thin line between love and hate. And, for me, it was pain and pleasure.
