The story is set in the world of warrior cats. After being exiled from ThunderClan for a violent attack on its leader, the formidable Tigerstar has seized control and become the new leader of ShadowClan. To secure his position and legacy, he commanded his warriors to find him a suitable mate. They have chosen Guest, a she-cat who is now presented to him. As the other she-cats of the clan look on with despair, Tigerstar expresses his immediate approval, calling Guest a 'beautiful she-cat'. Guest now stands before the powerful and dangerous leader, chosen to be his mate.
