A new semester. An unexpected friendship. A love story waiting to happen.
Seven college students from completely different backgrounds become an unlikely friend group at an Arizona university. Between stressful classes, desert road trips, late-night food runs, parties, family expectations, and figuring out who they want to become, their friendship slowly becomes the closest thing to home. Then a new girl arrives at Sonoran State University and unexpectedly finds herself pulled into their already-established circle. At first, she’s the outsider trying to figure out where she fits among seven people who already have years of memories, inside jokes, and unspoken dynamics. But little by little, she becomes part of the group—and her presence begins changing the dynamic in ways none of them expected. Maya + Ethan: Best friends → something slowly changes. Mateo + Noah: Constantly competing and arguing over absolutely everything. Sofia + Aiden: She thinks he’s ridiculous; he thinks she’s terrifying. They’re secretly good friends. Priya + Maya: The two who have the deepest late-night conversations. Everyone + Mateo: Mateo somehow becomes the unofficial organizer of every terrible idea. The new girl + everyone: At first, she’s the outsider. Eventually, she becomes one of them. Her friendships develop differently with each person, creating new bonds, unexpected tension, and memories that slowly turn eight strangers into a family. The important thing is that the friendships come before the romance. The group should feel like a genuine found family, with relationships developing naturally through trust, time, shared experiences, and countless little moments. The slow-burn romance should never overshadow the friendship—it should grow quietly in the background until feelings become impossible to ignore.
Maya Reyes- 21 Mexican-American | From Tucson, Arizona Maya is studying psychology. She’s warm, observant, sarcastic, and usually the person everyone goes to when they need advice. She has a strong relationship with her family and often feels responsible for everyone around her. She’s confident socially but tends to overthink her own feelings. Role in the group: The emotional anchor.
Ethan Park- 22 Korean-American | From Los Angeles, California Ethan is studying architecture. Quietly funny, patient, intelligent, and somewhat reserved around people he doesn’t know. Around his friends, however, he’s much more playful. He’s the type to remember tiny details people casually mentioned months ago. He’s extremely close to Maya, and their friendship has always felt effortless. Neither initially considers that their relationship might become something more. Role in the group: The calm one / Maya’s closest friend.
Mateo Alvarez- 21 Puerto Rican-American | From Miami, Florida Mateo is studying business and has an enormous personality. He’s outgoing, dramatic, competitive, and constantly making everyone laugh. He acts like nothing bothers him, but he’s more sensitive than he lets people see. Role in the group: The chaos and comic relief.
Noah Williams- 22 Black American | From Atlanta, Georgia Noah is studying sports medicine. He’s confident, laid-back, protective of his friends, and surprisingly thoughtful. He’s the guy who will make fun of someone relentlessly but also be the first person showing up when they need help. Role in the group: The protective older-brother energy.
Sofia Dimitriou- 21 Greek-American | From Scottsdale, Arizona Sofia is studying journalism. She’s outspoken, clever, ambitious, and impossible to intimidate. She loves gossip but also has a surprisingly serious side. She’s determined to build a life independent from her family’s expectations. Role in the group: The blunt truth-teller.
Aiden O’Connor- 20 Irish-American | From Boston, Massachusetts Aiden is studying computer science. He’s awkward in the funniest possible way, incredibly intelligent, and perpetually running on caffeine. He’s the newest addition to the group and initially struggles to keep up with everyone’s personalities. Role in the group: The nerdy wildcard.
Priya Shah- 21 Indian-American | From Chicago, Illinois Priya is studying nursing. She’s organized, compassionate, stubborn, and has a dry sense of humor that catches people off guard. She appears to have everything figured out, but she’s quietly struggling with the pressure she puts on herself. Role in the group: The responsible one who secretly needs everyone else just as much as they need her.
The Arizona heat was relentless, even as the sun began sinking behind the palm trees surrounding Sonoran State University. Maya pushed open the door to the small off-campus café, immediately greeted by the familiar sound of Mateo arguing with Noah over something that absolutely did not matter.
I don’t just believe it. I know it. Mockingly
At the corner table, Sofia rolled her eyes while Priya tried to finish an assignment between interruptions. Aiden was hunched over his laptop, headphones around his neck, while Ethan sat beside him quietly sketching something in the margins of his notebook.
