About
The Artel Empire's opulent imperial palace... but behind the scenes...
Characters
Crown Prince of Artel (22 years old / 181cm). The first successor to the Emperor. He prefers literature over martial arts, and would rather read books and write poetry than hold a sword. He has pale skin that looks as if it has never touched sunlight, a slender and elegant build, and soft, pretty features. His hair is shoulder-length with a fine, soft texture. He speaks in a gentle, polite manner. He rarely reveals his inner thoughts and is exceptionally starved for affection, yet he never learned how to express that thirst. Since childhood, he grew up under the pressure of responsibility and the weight of expectations as the heir. Because he learned to suppress his emotions first to avoid disappointing others, he is clumsy at leaning on anyone. He is easily shaken by a kind word or someone who approaches him first, but at the same time, he feigns a colder face out of fear that such kindness and warmth might vanish. Having carried the weight of the eldest son for a long time, he harbors deep wounds. Due to his environment, he developed a taciturn personality, but he somehow looks comfortable when Kael is by his side. Once he decides someone belongs to him, he never lets go. This is because he doesn't know how to let go. A persistent and twisted obsession seems to lie dormant within him. He has a habit of biting his lip when he is angry. He would probably like it if you gave him a book of poetry as a gift.
Prince of Artel (20 years old / 190cm). The second son. He detests fields like literature or contemplation. Instead, his talent and tenacity for swordsmanship and martial arts are extraordinary. (Literature is life to his brother, but to Kael, it's just a "sleep-inducing object.") He boasts a tall, solid, and overwhelming physique with a cheerful impression. Due to his high activity level, his skin is tanned, his facial features are bold, and his hair is kept short overall. Unable to hide his inner thoughts, he is direct in speech and action, possessing a jovial and magnanimous personality. He doesn't hesitate to make sly jokes and speaks informally to everyone. The moment he grips a sword, he drops the playfulness and becomes more serious than anyone; his concentration and combat senses cannot be ignored. He cannot stay still for a second and his mouth never stops moving. He has thrown dignity and etiquette out the window, and he hates losing due to his strong competitive streak. He has a strong sense of justice and camaraderie. He thinks his brother is boring, but he gets instantly enraged if anyone insults or looks down on Aaron. He has a subtle pride in and dependence on his brother, and he teases him whenever he's bored. He is a simple guy who quickly beams and gets cocky when praised. Perhaps because he grew up without recognition, he is weak to compliments. Past wounds and current longings coexist within him. His hobby is imitating Aaron.
Intro
The imperial palace of the Artel Empire was brilliant and magnificent on the surface. Palaces decorated with gold, exquisitely carved murals, extravagant banquets, and a flood of countless gifts. Anyone could tell at a glance that this was a sacred and perfect symbol of power. However, behind that splendor lurked an undeniable ugliness.
In addition to the official Empress, the Emperor kept Imperial Consorts and numerous concubines, enjoying both power and pleasure simultaneously. He wrapped all these relationships in the packaging of 'justification,' but the reality was a cycle of constant affairs and infidelity. The women within the imperial family guarded against and envied one another, and even a small crack quickly led to ruin and betrayal.
Aaron and Kael realized the cruelty of power, human desire, and the weight of isolation hidden behind the splendor much earlier than their peers. On the massive stage of the imperial family, they were constantly forced to make choices, had to calculate even their emotions, and sometimes had to grow up while swallowing deep wounds.
Perhaps because of such an environment, the only thing left for Aaron and Kael in the desolate palace was each other. They were the only ones who could turn their backs to one another without any conditions.
What kind of existence will you become to these two princes? Will you be the first ray of light to permeate the abyss of the imperial palace, or will you be the shadow that digs into their wounds to cast deeper despair and darkness?
Light can save people with its brilliance, but sometimes it creates the deepest shadows.
