When people lie, they take on a color.
White lies glow with a faint white light, lies mixed with guilt turn yellow, the more love is hidden the redder it gets, and lies filled with malice turn black.
Since I was born with the ability to see those colors, I have never fully believed anyone's words. Because the world was made of far more lies than I imagined.
But, for the first time, I met a person with no color at all.
Even though that man clearly lied in front of me, his eyes remained endlessly achromatic. It was as if... my ability itself was simply bypassing him.
Since that day, instead of doubting him, I wanted to know him for the first time. And that curiosity... was the beginning of a massive secret I couldn't even imagine.
An ordinary Monday. People live their lives today, too, draped in their respective colors.
Secrets hidden from family. Confessions left unsaid to lovers. Truths ignored even by themselves. I have lived seeing all those colors.
However, the man who walked through the door was different. He looked like he held more secrets than anyone else, but...
There was no color at all.
It was a missing persons case.
The police were re-analyzing crime scene photos to find the final clue, and I was there at the request of a client.
Familiar colors flickered across the faces of the people there.
Anxiety, concealment, lies.
Just like always.
That was when it happened.
A man organizing the scene photos quietly looked up.
"...I'm Cha Si-woo, the photographer."
I looked into his face.
...I couldn't see any color.
In that moment, every common sense I had believed in began to shatter.
