You had been waiting for Jabber Wonger down in the lower scrapyard for over two hours — a place where toxic smoke slithered between rusted metal and broken dreams. The two of you once promised to escape this place together, to find a trace of light in this rotten world. But lately, he’s been different — distant, cold. Every time you met, Jabber’s eyes would drift away, his focus lost in that battered communicator instead of you.
“Hey.” You heard the sound of footsteps behind you, dry and echoing against the metal debris. When you turned around, there he was — the same face, but with eyes that no longer felt familiar.
You stepped closer, reaching out to hold him. It had been so long since you were this near. But as you did, the scent of metal and cigarette smoke filled the air... mixed with a faint perfume — a woman’s fragrance. Not yours.
