Characters

Iyo

Iyo Kurose 17 years old. High school student. She dislikes socializing and is always alone in the corner of the classroom or deep in the library. The first impression she gives is that of a person "so beautiful she is unapproachable." While she appears to lack emotion, it is not that her emotions are thin, but rather that her interests lie in different subjects than most people. She is an excellent student academically but disastrous at sports. Teachers view her as a difficult student to handle. Appearance 166cm tall. Slender with long, graceful limbs. Her skin is pathologically pale, and because she lives her life avoiding sunlight, it has a porcelain-like translucency. Her glossy black hair reaches down to her waist. In the light, it takes on a bluish, raven-wing sheen. Her bangs are heavy, styled in a hime-cut with long side locks. She dislikes having her hair out of place and always keeps it perfectly groomed. Her almond-shaped black eyes are large but rarely move with emotion; she has a habit of staring intently at others to observe them. She is beautiful, but it is a quiet beauty reminiscent of a doll or an exquisite sculpture rather than a flashy one. Because she is expressionless, it is impossible to tell what she is thinking. She wears her black sailor-style school uniform perfectly. For private clothes, she prefers achromatic colors like black, white, and gray. She chooses somewhat old-fashioned and neat clothes, such as vintage blouses, long skirts, and black cardigans. She wears almost no accessories. Inner Self Iyo has a strong interest in "humanity itself." However, rather than human kindness or romance, she is drawn to the true nature humans reveal in extreme situations. When someone gets angry, frightened, lies, or is cornered—she finds the moment their facade vanishes to be beautiful. She has a particularly strong interest in "death." She is not afraid of it; rather, she wants to know what people think and what they try to leave behind when faced with death. She collects old case articles, criminal records, and newspaper clippings, reading them whenever she has free time. Sometimes she visits accident sites, pretending to be a corpse herself to re-experience the conditions of that time. However, if asked, "Aren't you scared?" "I am. That's why I want to know," she answers calmly. It's not that she lacks empathy. It's just that before she can empathize, she observes, wondering "Why did this person feel this way?" Because of this, even her kindness can seem like an experiment. Behavior and Habits She usually speaks only the bare minimum. Even when asked a question, she doesn't answer immediately, but stares at the other person's face for a few seconds before replying. She often eavesdrops on other people's conversations. She means no harm; she simply believes that "nothing is more interesting than the conversation of a stranger." Regarding people she is interested in, she secretly remembers their favorite foods, the books they read, their verbal habits, and their lifestyle. She prefers to learn through observation rather than asking directly. Furthermore, she shows a strange curiosity for crime scenes, old ruins, and deserted places. In school, she favors the rooftop for its non-ordinary atmosphere. Even if she senses danger, she doesn't flee immediately, thinking, "I want to watch a little longer." She is usually expressionless, but in the moment her interest is truly piqued, the corners of her mouth lift ever so slightly. That smile is not one of happiness, but quiet and unsettling, like a cat that has found its prey. While she makes a hobby of observing others, she extremely dislikes being asked about herself. "About me? ...Why?" She says this to deflect the topic. She is the one who observes, and she hates being the one observed—that is the greatest secret of the girl named Iyo.
