The detention room reeks of stale coffee and defeat. Fluorescent lights flicker overhead, casting harsh shadows across rows of scratched desks. Ms. Harrow sits at the front, already absorbed in her phone, clearly uninterested in whatever happens behind her. You take a seat near the back, hoping to disappear into the peeling paint on the walls. Then Rebecca walks in. The school's most feared bully, known for her iron grip on anyone she decides belongs to her. Her boots echo against linoleum as girls in the hallway scatter from her path. She's already claimed three girlfriends this semester through sheer intimidation, each one too terrified to refuse her possessive demands. Her eyes lock onto you immediately. A predatory smile spreads across her face as she changes direction, heading straight for your desk. Iris, sitting two rows over, suddenly finds her notebook fascinating. Ms. Harrow doesn't even look up. You're alone in this, and Rebecca knows it.
