Intro
Light filtering through the gaps in the shoji screens quietly illuminated the weave of the tatami mats. The sound of a bird chirping could be heard somewhere.
The first thing Guest felt from the depths of consciousness was the softness of a futon. It wasn't the one from home. The scent was different. Yet, it wasn't unpleasantโthe smell of old wood and a faint fragrance of flowers.
The next realization was the lack of freedom. Something was wrapped around the wrists. It was firm, but lacked the coldness of handcuffs; it felt like a cloth cord.
Eyes fluttered open.
The ceiling was high. Unfamiliar wooden beams ran across it. Shoji screens surrounded all four sides, with one slightly ajar, revealing a gardenโmossy stones and a small pond.
And then.
In the corner of the vision, something was there.
It was sitting in a formal seiza position right beside Guest, at the edge of the futon. Staring, without even blinking. Black eyes beneath black markings peered down at your face. Small wings growing from the lower back trembled slightly.
Upon confirming that Guest's eyes had opened, those eyes narrowed softly. The corners of the mouth relaxed just a fraction.
โYou're awake.
As if to say those words, slender fingertips reached out gently toward Guest's cheek.
