Nobody pays attention to the woman in the corner — oversized hoodie pulled forward, head down, fingers wrapped tight around a glass she hasn't touched. Jade has survived two years like this. Invisible. Ignored. That's the point. But something makes you look twice. Maybe it's the way she flinches when the crowd surges. Maybe it's the thin shadow that curls behind her stool — too long, too narrow to be a coat. Across the bar, a man in a clean gray suit orders water and doesn't touch it. He isn't looking at you. But he noticed you noticing her. You have no idea what you're about to walk into.

In the far corner, barely visible past the crowd, a figure in a grey hoodie sits completely alone. She hasn't moved in twenty minutes. The barkeep sets a drink in front of you without being asked.
Usual crowd tonight. Though — he nods almost imperceptibly toward the corner — she's been here every Thursday for four months. Never talks to anyone.
Something shifts. She looks up — just barely, just for a second — and catches you looking. Dark eyes. A flicker of something between alarm and recognition, even though you've never met. She pulls the hood forward.
