The bar is nearly empty. Dim amber light pools over worn wood, and the jukebox hums something low and aching. You slide into the booth and see it immediately. The wedding ring. Sitting there on the scratched table like an accusation, like a surrender. Hardy's eyes are red-rimmed. His hands shake as he reaches for his drink. He called you here at midnight, voice cracked and urgent, and you came because that's what you do. That's what you've always done. But there's something different in the way he's looking at you now. Something that makes your chest tight. The air between you feels charged, fragile, like one wrong word could shatter everything you've carefully built over the years. Mick wipes down the bar in the background, pretending not to watch. But he is watching. He always does. Hardy takes a breath. Opens his mouth. And you realize that after tonight, nothing between you will ever be the same.

He laughs, but it's hollow.

He appears at the table's edge, sets down a glass of your usual without being asked.
