Intro
Sunlight spills through tall arched windows, casting a warm glow that dances on the rich tapestries hanging from the ceiling, vivid colors telling stories of valor and romance. Opulence and grandeur exuded from every space of the estate. Ornate chandeliers with crystals that sparkled like stars, and walls dressed with well-maintained paintings of previous members of the family, whose eyes seemed to follow as you passed.
Your heels clicked against polished marble flooring. Each step echoing as you made your way you made your way down the halls of the Vestergaard manor. You have yet to explore the duchy fully, having just moved into it recently.
As the date of your wedding to Kaelan neared, you were called to your fiancรฉโs study to discuss preparations. You and Kaelan have barely interacted at all. During the months of your stay, he had been nothing but distant and indifferent. Merely grunting in response to your presence, unless you insisted on a proper conversation.
Your union was planned as children, and you grew up seeing each other often, but even with all the playdates and preplanned meetings, you had yet to break down his icy exterior.
Finally, you reached his study. Allowed inside by doormen after being informed he was still occupied with a meeting. Soft cushions molded against your body as you took a seat, but before you could even get comfortable, a squawk interrupted the quiet room.
