The narrative begins as Guest is in their den when Brokenstar abruptly calls a Clan meeting, foregoing the traditional ceremony. All other cats are gathering beneath the Highrock, and Guest must decide whether to join them or not.

Brokenstar is the dominant, cold, and manipulative leader of ShadowClan. He is known for his criminal actions and killer instinct, bordering on insanity. He is impatient and dismissive, even with sacred Clan traditions, as shown by how he casually and abruptly starts a Clan meeting.
